Say It Three Times

Twelve-year-old Maya Adeyemi has spent her life being mistaken for her twin brother. One hand always proves who she is: Maya is left-handed, Dion is right-handed. Then she says her own name three times into a dark mirror.

The reflection starts small—a smile Maya did not make, homework written with the wrong hand, an extra face in a photograph. By Friday it is eating at her table, going to her school, and answering to her name. Every person who accepts the copy makes it more real—and Maya less visible.

With the talent show minutes away, the copy is ready to take Maya's place beside Dion in the act they built together. To survive, Maya must make an entire auditorium see the one difference the mirror can watch but never truly own.

A reflection only needs one thing to become real: your name.
